Having a field day: My time with an LDC field researcher

For the past five weeks working at the Local Data Company I’ve had the opportunity to examine the comprehensive data that we have on the retail and leisure market across GB. Using LDO (LDC’s location insight platform) I can see extensive information on an entire town whether it be the number and nature of all the restaurants and shops in a location or the health of a specific street. LDC track over 600,000 units on a 6 or 12 month basis and use a combination of desk research and field research to keep the database up to date. I wanted to know more about what the source of all this information is.

Over the past few years, fast food has had a make-over. No longer do fast food meals comprise of a greasy burger made out of the cuts of meat normally reserved for I’m a celebrity and some pallid and sad-looking french fries. Now, you can choose your food across breakfast, lunch and dinner and across many different cuisines, countries and persuasions (even vegan!). The biggest change for these brands however has been a move towards fresher, cleaner food and even in some cases, healthy!

2017 Retail and Leisure Highlights: A Year in Review

Happy New Year from LDC!

At LDC, we can’t believe how quickly 2017 seems to have gone. We had an incredibly busy and exciting year which included us installing our 800th footfall tracking sensor, making a whopping 804,000 updates to our retail and leisure database over the entire year, 20,300 hours of field research time, running four incredibly successful retail summits across London, Glasgow and Cardiff, welcoming lots of new faces to the team, a shiny new office in Farringdon and much, much more!

2017 was also a very eventful year for the retail and leisure market, which saw many brands come together to share space, last minute rescues, foreign invasions and lots of shiny new shopping centres, creating more experiential destination for the nation’s shoppers. We’ve collated our highlights from the past year, just in case you missed anything!
