Even though two years has passed, BHS is still a relevant topic for many, as the stores often occupied sizable units in prominent locations and acted as the anchor for many towns and cities. How are John Lewis leading the way with their click-and-collect service?

In their recent weekly sales figures, market leading department store, John Lewis, reported an increase in sales across all their departments on the same week in 2016 (week 32). Overall fashion sales were up +7.5%; primarily driven by womenswear, which increased by +21.5%. Electrical and Home Technology sales grew +9.2%, facilitated by a +53% increase in sales of Apple MacBooks by matching a competitor's promotion - proving the retailer remains true to its price-matching slogan “Never Knowingly Undersold”. Overall, total sales for the week climbed by +5.9% year-on-year.

More than half of the 160 BHS stores that closed after the retailer fell into administration a year ago are still sitting empty - revealed in research we released earlier this week.

Bringing to an end 90 years of trading for the famous British chain, research from LDC shows that 60% of the stores still remain empty with no plans for re-occupation.

One year on 82% of BHS stores lie empty

LDC's latest research on the 160 stores across Great Britain that once homed BHS, shows that one year on 82% lie empty. Thirty-five stores (22%) have deals or planning permission pending which brings down the figure of those lying empty and with no plans to 60% (96 stores).
