Millions of toys, all under one roof - now in city centres? Toys 'R' Us' pop up store in Cardiff

Toys ‘R’ Us are opening a 4,000 sq. ft. pop up store in Cardiff next Monday for the Christmas season in the Queens Arcade.

Currently, Toys ‘R’ Us only have one store in Cardiff which is situated in Cardiff Bay Retail Park (a 15-20 minute drive from the Queens Arcade).

JD Sports is to open second major store on Oxford Street [Portfolio Snapshot]

Sportswear retailer JD Sports is set to open its second major store on Oxford Street in London. The retailer has agreed to lease a 23,000 square foot property West of Oxford Circus at 375-381 Oxford Street. The store will sit within the West One Shopping Centre (Bond Street).

JD Sports' other Oxford Street store is on the High Street and occupies a floorspace of 31,700 square foot.

Using our Map feature with our online dashboard LDO we were able to see an overview of all JD Sports' locations across the UK. Most JD Sports stores are concentrated in the Greater London area and in the North West around Manchester.

Is footfall data fit for purpose?

Footfall along with the weather are the most often used and sometimes misunderstood words in the world of places/retail.

Often the data is incomplete, inaccurate or being disseminated for reasons beyond the actual meaning of the data.

Stats abound everywhere, every week from footfall being 9% down on high streets in the last 5 years to 3% down in shopping centres and 5% up in retail parks but what does this really mean and most importantly should we believe it?

Data be it big or small, should be transparent and clear.

In light of Sainsbury's publishing a 22 page presentation which outlines their plans should they acquire Home Retail Group, we performed some analysis on the store numbers.

Using LocalDataIOnline, our Retail Location tool, we are able to see how many Argos stores have a Sainsbury's supermarket within a 200m radius and also which regions are likely to be most affected if an acquisition went ahead.

On New Year’s eve 2015 it is a good time to briefly reflect on what happened in 2015 and what these trends might point towards in 2016.

I believe that 2015 has been a positive year in many ways for many high streets, shopping centres and retail parks but sadly not for all. I would, however, say that for the majority they have seen the changes that one has hoped for and many have talked about.
