Video Summary: LDC's 16th Retail and Leisure Summit

15 September 2017 by Noelle Ghanem

The first six months of 2017 produced a remarkable turnaround in some of the key indicators of the health of the UK’s retail locations. Total retail sales excluding fuel jumped by +4.4% in H1 2017 compared to H1 2016 (ONS, value, non-seasonally adjusted) adding £7.2 billion to spending. 77% of adults bought products and services online in 2016 (ONS) and Amazon bought Whole Foods Market, simultaneously boosting the argument that retail and property work well together - and scaring all of its competitors, everywhere.

During this 16th Retail and Leisure Trends Summit, Matthew Hopkinson, Director at LDC shared with the audience unique data produced by LDC around the health and trends of our retail centres. Some of the key highlights (also available in our Retail and Leisure Trends Report H1 2017) were:

  • H1 2017 produced a marked turnaround in net shop numbers compared to the same period in 2016 - a net gain of +103 against a loss of -1,997.

  • Retail Parks continue to lead other location types in net openings.

  • Barbers and Beauty Salons topped the growth tables in H1 2017.

In this video below, Matthew gives a summary of the event that was held on September 14th at Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) LLP.
